Paul T. O’Brien, Jr. of Venice, Florida passed away at the age of 69 on the ninth day of January 2021 with his loving family by his side. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife Pamela for 48 years. Other survivors that will miss him immensely are his children. Timothy O’Brien (wife Niki, Kevin O’Brien (wife Teresa) Luke O’Brien (wife Kaitlin), and Joy O’Brien. Also surviving are his beautiful grandchildren Ashlyn, Cash, Stephan, Caedmon, Rakiyah, and Liam. Paul was the oldest of six brothers and sisters. Younger siblings are Carolyn O’Brien Kardos (Dennis), Kathleen O’Brien O’Shea (Marty), Marylou O’Brien Irizarry (Rubin), and Patrick O’Brien (Heather.) Paul was born in Fairfield, Connecticut where he was raised by his pre-deceased loving parents Paul and Joan O’Brien. He was a graduate of Andrew Ward high school in Fairfield. He had a love for horses and spent many years caring for his own. That’s how he met his wife Pam who shares the same passion for horses. They were married on September 14, 1973, and then shortly after he entered his career in the United States Coast Guard. He patrolled our waters and was out to sea for three months at a time. His brothers George and Patrick also served in the United States Coast Guard as well. Paul retired after serving for 23 years and his family moved to Florida. He then got his real estate license and pursued that career working for Michael Sanders for many years. Paul was very active in his church and played an important role as an Elder. Prior to that he worked with the youth including his own children and went on many mission trips. Paul and Pam loved traveling and spending time with their family. Paul’s only request for a Christmas gift was a picture with his entire family. Paul was diagnosed with cancer many years ago and was in remission for almost 5 years when it returned. He tried his best to fight it till the very end. He was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him and he will be truly missed. May his memory be a blessing to us all. Church service will be held on Thursday, January 14 at 12 o’clock noon at lift Church Center St., Venice, FL. A military burial with gun salute tribute will be held on Monday, January 18 at 10:30 at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the National Cancer Society in loving memory of Paul O’Brien Jr.
