Obituary

Dr. Peggy Joyce Mason, 65, of Venice, FL. died August 14, 2019 at Tidewell Hospice of Venice. The family has been cautioned by peggy’s sister, not to say “We have lost Peggy” because that would make us seem irresponsible.

After her graduation from Abraham Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Peggy received her Bachelors Degree from University of Iowa, a Masters of Science Degree from Boston University and was awarded her Doctorate of Dentistry also from Boston University. She practiced dentistry in Boston and Miami Lakes, Fl before opening her own practice, “Island Dentistry”, in Venice. Peggy will be remembered as a loving and generous daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Survivors include her mother, Lena Mason of West Des Moines, IA., sister, Jeanette Hiscocks and her husband Tom, brother, Craig Mason and his wife, Teri, of Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii, as well as nine nieces and nephews.

Her father Otto Mason, preceded her in death.

A memorial celebration of her life will be 10:00 a.m., Monday August 19, 2019 at Farley Funeral Home in Venice.

The family wishes to thank Theresa Kimson for all that she has done to help Peggy and her family.

I recently read in the Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry magazine that Peggy had passed away. I was in the dental class one year behind Peggy but we were good friends. We decided to move to Florida and needed to take the boards. Peggy and I flew down to Gainesville in January of 1987. We spent ten days studying, preparing and finally taking the board exams. We both passed and, in March, secured a moving company. She and I put our belongings in the truck and headed to Florida. We spent time together until she moved away. We lost touch. I will always have fond memories of our tough times (the dental boards), and our happy times (visiting the Keys, sailing, partying). I light a candle for my friend Peggy. Gone too soon.

Have just found out about Peggy's passing. I knew her when I was a dental student at Boston University in the 70's. All my memories of Peggy are good ones.

Peggy was a faithful friend to myself and two sons, David and Michael. She encouraged Michael throughout his education at New College of Florida then on to the University of Freiburg, Germany for his Masters/Phd. Many fond memories at her home and in and around her pool!

I also hope you received the flowers I sent you Peggy. They were to get to the Farley Funeral Home on Saturday, but again no confirmation. We were told not to send any, but I knew how much you liked them and I didn't. Rest in peace Peggy and it was a Wonderful eighteen years, working for you on my vacations, traveling with you on your various vacation trips, spending the Holidays with you and just being your BFF. I will remember you always!

Thank you my friend for all that you have done for me over the years. I so enjoyed our trip to Hawaii and Iowa together and meeting your wonderful family. You will be missed to be sure, but now your pain and suffering have finally come to an end.

Please accept my sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to all her family and friends. Gone way too soon and robbed of her golden years in retirement that's for sure. She was a good friend and I will miss her, but I am glad that her pain and suffering has finally come to an end. Enjoy whatever comes after we leave this earth my friend and save a spot for me .
