Charles E. Beard passed away in Sarasota, FL on April 24th, he was 85 years old.
He was born on November 17, 1920 in Andrews, NC. He came to Florida in 1991 from North Plainfield, NJ.
He graduated from Dodge Technical Institute & Ohio State University; he was a member of the American Legion and the VFW; served in WWII with the Army Air Force in the design and testing of electronic counter measures; Project manager of the Ferret Project; 39 combat missions in the CBI theater; he was decorated with 2 Battle Stars (Asiatic – Pacific); Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters; Bronze Star; Distinguished Flying Cross and Presidential Unit Citation. In post WWII he served in the USAFR. Both he and his late wife Eileen Pittillo Beard were on staff of Radio Station WWNC.
He is survived by two daughters, Lynne Burke of Orangeville, Ontario and Jan Cannizzo of Collegeville, PA; a son Paul S. of Schwenksville, PA; two sisters, Evelyn Simpson of Atlana GA, and June Radford of Candler, NC; six grandchildren.
