Obituary

Hildegard Ciesiel, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Venice, FL on April 9, 2021.  Hildegard was born in Hamburg, Germany on June 8, 1935.  She made her way to the United States in the late 1950’s.  She spent many years in the Chicago area building a new and successful life in America.  She had many interesting jobs and ultimately became an in-house travel agent with Allstate Insurance where she met and married Elmer Ciesiel.  They were married for more than 20 years and settled in Riverwoods, IL.  They spent their retirement years at their homes on Barker Lake in Winter, WI, and as snowbirds in Venice, FL.  While in Winter, they formed many new friendships and became a part of a close-knit “Up North Family”.

After Elmer’s death in 2015, Hildegard was lucky enough to find love with Bill Jandt of Winter, WI and together they shared almost 6 happy years of traveling and companionship.

Hildegard had a huge heart, was always the life of the party, and a joy in the lives for all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, Florida 34238.

Dear Bill, When remembering Hildegarde, we think of the good times we had on our South American cruise in January 2020. She was always happy, energetic and full of fun. We cannot believe she is no longer with us. Forever in our hearts never forgotten. Sincerely, Georgena & Bill Stahl

Der Bill, I am very sad and still can not believe that Hildegard is not with us anymore. We did know each other for over 60 years and had a very close friendship which started in Chicago. After we left the USA there where a lot of trips between the USA and Germany to keep up the friendship. Now I am watching the Stars. I am shure Hildegard is sitting on one of them. Twinkle, twinkle ,little Star Up above the World so high Like a Diamant in the sky. My thoughs are with YouIngrid Love Ingrid

Dear Hildegard, You were an amazing and generous person and I'm greatful for the moments we shared. I'll always carry you in my heart as my cool godmother from the U.S. and my visit in 1987 I'll always hold in very dear memory. Do you recall the fashion boutique at Tampa Airport with all the fancy clothes, e. g. the studded skull leather jacket? It was such a precarious moment when I bitched about the pieces in German, unaware that the owner lady understood every single word as she was from Heidelberg? I'm very glad that we had the opportunity to meet when you and Bill came to Cologne on your river cruise in 2018. It's so sad, though, that those hours should have been the last we'd ever have together. So, it's time to say farewell, wherever you are. Love, Heidi
