Hope Ryder Baxter, born in Passaic, NJ, on August 1, 1936, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2021, at Bridgeway Senior Care Center in Hillsborough, NJ, where she was cared for in an exemplary fashion.
Hope was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Tameeny [Hakim] Baxter, her brother, Ted George Baxter, and the love of her life and husband, C. Robert Pletzner. She and Bob were affectionately referred to as “Bob Hope!” They were together for the better part of 48 years. Hope lived in Lyndhurst, Somerset, Metuchen, and Seaside Heights, NJ, retiring later with Bob for many quiet years to Venice, FL.
Hope is survived by six children with her first husband, the late William Arthur Sutton: Linda Ping (husband, the late Richard Ping) of Murfreesboro, TN; Dawn White (husband, Patrick) of Naples, FL; Robin Ofeldt (husband, Jim) of Wall Twp., NJ; Merry VanDyke (husband, Kyle) of Plainsboro, NJ; Bill Sutton (wife, Cheryl) of Cincinnati, OH; and Keith Sutton (wife, Janet) of Flemington, NJ. She is also survived by her loving sister, Beth Brown [Baxter] Fruchey and brother-in-law, Richard, who always made her smile. Hope had many, many canine children during her lifetime, each of whom she loved with all her heart. Often preferring their company to her humans.
Hope will always be remembered by those who loved her as a genuine and very unique woman, who in many ways, followed the beat of her own internal drummer throughout her life. Her favorite singer of all time was Frank Sinatra. She and Bob loved jazz music and attended many jazz festivals and concerts together. Her hobbies focused on painting, stained glass, needlepoint, knitting, crocheting and many other types of crafts, as well as learning to speak Japanese. She loved cooking and especially enjoyed Lebanese food and a good deli. In her professional life she was an Accountant, retiring in 1993. She will be missed by many. She was often heard to say: “He who has Hope, has everything!”, with a Cheshire Cat smile and a wink!
