Obituary of James Monroe Armstrong


It is with great sadness to announce the peaceful passing of James Monroe Armstrong. James
was 95 and passed away on March 16, 2024. He was born on October 30, 1928, in Bradenton
Florida to Frances and Larkin Armstrong. James was married to his late wife Margaret
Armstrong for 70 years. He is survived by daughters, Sandi, Jodi, and Lynn, four grandchildren,
Matthew, Lindsea, Eric, and Connor along with two great grandchildren, Cecelia and Amelia.
James served in the Army and then went on to a long career with NCR and retired after 40 years
and returned to work as the Director of West Coast Inland Navigation District in Venice, Fl.
James was passionate about many of the projects he undertook with WCIND. Most notable, the
dismantling and sale of the Boca Grand Railroad bridge and aid to securing both the land and
the building of the Venice Senior Friendship Center. James was an an avid Florida Gator
football fan and spent many years attending games along with boating, fishing, turtle patrol and
gardening while living in their home on Manasota Key and Venice. James was a loving and
devoted husband and incredible father who was always there for his family. He never grew tired
of watching the sunsets each and every night and will rest in peace with the many precious
memories that he held so close to his heart. Services will be held privately for family members.
